Fern Fever
Installation for Terrain Biennial at Enos Park, Springfield, IL, reinstalled at Boundary, Chicago in 2022
Fern Fever consists of human scale, freestanding lawn sculptures that reference basic leaf shapes of ferns, bridging a space between garden and architecture.
In the Victorian era, ferns were obsessively collected by people from all walks of life. They are ancient plants that people continue to admire and cultivate. Offering an aesthetic and material antidote to conditions of industrialization, this "pteridomania," resonates with contemporary desires for greenness and greenery, and increasing recognition of plant vitality.
